Certifications

We are pushing up our sleeves and digging in to reach our CERTIFICATION goals. New certification tests have been released and we are preparing!  The Cisco CCENT Certification validates the ability to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. With a CCENT, a network professional demonstrates the skills required for entry-level network support positions - the starting point for many successful careers in networking. The curriculum covers networking fundamentals, WAN technologies, basic security and wireless concepts, routing and switching fundamentals, and configuring simple networks. CCENT is the first step of two steps in achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections.

Connecting After High School: The Next Step

We have had two speakers from colleges visit our classroom this month. First, we thank Jessica Yordy from DeVry College who presented "How to Market Yourself to the College of Your Choice".   We've also thank Dan Burgess from WestWood College for his excellent presentation "Finding the Right Fit for College".

We've also attended a Microsoft Virtual Conference that included:

-- Speakers from India, the U.S., and Brazil presenting on cloud computing, emerging technologies and new careers

-- Technical sessions for power users of different O/S

In celebration of Technical Education, we've also virtually attended:

-- Microsoft Career Fair (met online various employers seeking technically skilled professionals)

-- Soft Skill Session Workshop (reviewed resume-writing secrets, interviewing tips, and how to self market in a digital world)

All Students

-- Students are discussing the implications of location-based social networking sites, how they intersect with technology and contribute both negatively and positively to society.  Each student will write a position paper and present an oral argument to a panel of class peers.

-- Students are completing a review of Math WorkKeys on (mixed) Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

-- Students are also completing a review of Literacy WorkKeys on Determining Word Meaning through Context.
