Quarter One:
Week Two: We will be covering shop safety both in the classroom and in the shop. In the classroom our reading assignment will be from Chapter 5 as well as multiple videos and a lecture on shop safety. In the shop students will be instructed in the safe operation of shop tools and equipment. Proper hoisting and jacking of cars will be demonstrated
Week Three: We will be covering hand tools and their proper use and care. In the classroom our reading assignment will be from Chapter 3 and there will be a power point presentation on hand tools. In the shop the student will be instructed on how to properly mount and balance a tire and there will be a test over both.
Week Four: We will be covering power tools and their safe operation. In the classroom our reading assignment will be from Chapter 4 and there will be a power point presentation on power tools. We will clean and organize the shop for a project to be built in Week Five. There will be a test over Chapters 3, 4, and 5.
Week Five: We will be building a strap type oil filter wrench from scratch. This will give students a chance to use some tools and math skills measuring and building parts for their wrench. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 1
Week Six: We will be covering torch and welding safety this week. We will be learning how to safely operate a cutting torch and proper brazing methods
Week Seven: We will cover safe operation of both ARK and MIG welding. We will also start a welding project. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 2.
Week Eight : We will be working on a welding assignment in the shop that will employ measuring and math skills. Our project will also teach the students how to use a variety of hand and power tools. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 7
Week Nine: This week we will cover vehicle service procedures and the use of service information. We will have a test over Chapters 2, 7, and 10. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 10
Quarter Two:
Week One: In week one we will begin with the fundamentals of the ignition system. There will be reading assignment from Chapter 35 and a power point lecture on ignition principals. We will spend some time in the lab demonstrating ignition components and their purposes.
Week Two : This week we will continue working in the lab with the fundamentals of the ignition system. We will begin working on the diagnosis of ignition system faults and troubleshooting problems in ignition systems. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 36.
Week Three: This week we will diagnose and repair vehicle ignition systems in the lab. Our reading assignment will be form Chapter 20, and there will be test over Chapters 35 & 36. On Friday a representative from Illinois Central College will be here to explain the General Motors ASEP training program.
Week Four: We will continue to work on ignition system diagnosis and repair. Testing of ignition related components and ignition wiring. Wiring diagrams will be used to find trouble faults in systems. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 21.
Week Five : In week five we will begin the fuel systems portion of the Engine Performance Class. We will begin with study of automotive fuels and alternative means of fueling automobiles.
Week Six : This week we will cover the fuel supply system and its components, fuel tanks, pumps, lines, filters, and regulators. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 22.
Week Seven : This week we will begin studying fuel injection systems. We will start with basic types of injection systems, throttle body and multi port injection. Later in the week we will move on to components of the injection system and some troubleshooting of injection problems. The students will be tested over Chapters 20, 21, and 22. Our reading assignment will be from chapter 23.
Quarter Three: Steering and Suspension
Week One: In week one we will begin with the fundamentals of wheel bearings for automotive axles. Serviceable and non serviceable bearings will be covered as well as the construction of different kinds of bearings. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Sixty five. This will be followed by a power point presentation and bearing packing demonstration.
Week Two: In week two we will continue to study wheel bearings and perform various service procedures on them The class will also review tire changing techniques and principles. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Sixty six.
Week Three: In week three we will finish up wheel bearings and have test over chapters Sixty five and Sixty six. We will move on to suspension construction and the function of the suspension system starting with the strut type suspension. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Sixty seven.
Week Four: In week four we will begin suspension system repair procedures on strut type suspensions. This will consist of demonstrations and student lab activities. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Sixty eight.
Week Six : In week six we will study the construction function and repair of rear suspension systems. This will consist of classroom lecture with laboratory demonstrations and student lab activities. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Sixty nine. There will be a test over Chapters 67 and 68.
Week Seven : In week seven we will begin with the construction, function and repair of the automotive steering system. This will involve classroom lectures, lab demonstrations and student laboratory exercises. Our reading
assignment will be from Chapter Seventy.
Week Eight : In week eight we will continue with repair procedures of steering components in the lab. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter Seventy One.
Week Nine : In week nine we will spend time in the lab aligning cars. We will also attend the career fair Wednesday and Friday.
Quarter Four : Drivetrain
Week One : Quarter Four we will begin a unit on automotive drivetrains to include automatic and manual transmissions and trans axles, transfer cases, four wheel drive systems, axles and differentials, and clutches. In week one we will study the purpose, operation, construction and repair of the clutch system. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 53.
Week two : In week two we will begin to cover front wheel drive trans axles by studying their construction and function. Front wheel drive axle shafts will also be covered. Our reading assignment will be from Chapter 63.
Week Three : In week three we will work in the shop on labs involving the removal diagnosis and replacement of CV axle shafts.
Week Four : In week four we will will begin the study of the rear wheel drive automobile and its components. Our reading assignment will be form Chapter 53.
Week Five : In week five wee will spend the week cleaning and preparing for the SkillsUSA Competition
Week Six : In week six we will spend time in the shop removing and replacing rear wheel drive transmissions.
Week Seven : In week seven we will continue to work on rear wheel drive vehicles in the shop and our reading assignment will be from Chapter 61
